Kaloraynai
(Kalo, Raynai, Nessa, Toekau)
The
monstrous-eyed young woman (Guilder, Magicker, Rogue)
|
Unmissable, even at a glance, are this female's conspicuously large
eyes,
over two and a half times the size of a normal human. Ashy-brown in
colour,
they protrude slightly from her face in an effort to accommodate them
into
her gaunt bone structure. The rest of her face and body appear to be
proportionate for a short human, her gentle curves and slender features
covered in soft, sandy-coloured skin. Most of the flesh covering her
limbs
is smooth, although along the outer sides of her lower arms, the skin
takes
on a rough, gravelly texture, ochre hooks extending out from her flesh,
made
of a yellowed chitin which curves out two inches long into sharp points.
Her feet are typically dusty, dirt ground into the calloused and hard
soles.
Normally hidden, tucked in among her short, spikey, ebony-black hair,
are
two segmented, brown, insect-like antennae. |
Background:
Growing up in Red
Storm, Kaloraynai (or 'Raynai') was considered,
justifiably, as a freak, a mutant, with her abnormally large eyes,
insect-like antennae, and, at the time, small ochre hooks that protruded
from the outer sides of her arms. Abandoned in the street by parents
fearing contempt and blame over their daughter's appearance (and trying to
repel illusions of any magickal interference), Raynai grew up being
rejected and scorned. As she started to reach maturity, a desire to make
herself appear more socially acceptable caused her to use sandpaper on the
hooks on her arms, scouring them and her skin until she bled profusely,
the action leaving her skin to grow back grainy and rough.
Unable to endure a small village, even the one so close to the Sea of
Silt, she plans to leave for Allanak, where she mistakenly believes that
the higher population of people will show even more variation in
appearance, and so be more forgiving.
At this time, her magickal abilities have not yet shown themselves, to
her, or others.
OOC Notes:
Her eyes have normal vision (they are not faceted like an insect's),
but
do not allow her to either see more clearly, or have any optical benefit,
as their large size inhibits the ability for the lens to focus.
The antennae are controllable, but mostly for displaying expression. They
are segmented, and so can wrap around things, but their nature prevents
gripping or lifting.
